Unlike many students, I did not start in the fall. My first real experience as a Gator began in the summer. 6 weeks of new friends, new memories, and new experiences. I expected an adjustment period, but I felt the change almost immediately. Many people from my high school attend UF, with the majority starting in the summer as well. I feared that I would stick to my close circle, but the opposite happened. Not only did I make new friends. but I also grew closer to those from my school that I only considered acquaintances. I quickly realized that no one really cared about what happened in high school; people just wanted to find friends and find their place at this huge school.

Once fall came around, I officially started my journey as a pre-med student. The classes were difficult, but I was almost excited to be challenged after an entire year of online learning. And everything was worth it on Saturday when game day took over campus. Game days are one of my favorite parts of being a student at UF. It was a day full of school spirit, football, and excitement. But obviously, there was more to college than just football.

I feel that I have been able to accomplish so much already as a freshman. I made lasting connections with professors, joined different clubs, rushed a sorority, began volunteering at Shands Children's Hospital, and started learning about research through the Undergraduate Research Scholars Program. One of the most challenging classes I have taken in my life was CHM2051, Chem 2 Honors. At times, I felt consumed by hours of work and studying in order to prepare for the extra difficult class, but at the end, it was definitely worth it. It obviously taught me how going deeper into the material helps to expand your mind, but it also showed me the importance of balancing classes and social life. College is not all about the classes you are in. It is the entire experience. It is about the independence, the long hours in Lib West, the late nights laughing with your friends in your room, and growing up. It's also learning life lessons that sometimes are difficult, but ultimately will make you a better person.

My first semester at UF has truly made an impact on my life, and I will never forget the memories and lessons I have learned. I cannot wait to see what my next few years at this amazing institution will bring.
